A Heart for Heroes: How Courtney Banks-McLaughlin Supports Military Families
Fayetteville is more than a city—it’s a proud military community. With Fort Bragg as a central part of local life, families here know the unique challenges and sacrifices that come with service. Courtney Banks-McLaughlin understands this deeply. As the wife of a disabled 82nd Airborne veteran, she has lived the reality of military life and continues to stand with those who serve.
Her work reflects a strong commitment to honoring military families and creating lasting support systems throughout Fayetteville.
Military Support Highlights
1. Created the Coryonna “Treasure” Young Memorial JROTC Scholarship
Courtney launched a scholarship fund to honor her daughter’s memory and help military-connected students cover the costs of uniforms, travel, and other JROTC-related expenses. This ensures that no young person is left out due to financial limitations.
2. Serves on the Military RULAC Committee
Courtney plays an active role on the Military Residents, Units, and Leadership Advisory Committee, which gives guidance on policies impacting military families. Her seat at the table helps bring real military community concerns to light at the city level.
3. Advocates for Military-Connected Youth
Whether supporting local ROTC and JROTC programs or working to expand opportunities for children in military households, Courtney consistently supports the development, inclusion, and leadership training of youth tied to service families.
4. Uplifts Military Spouses and Veterans
She stands with military spouses and works to improve resources for veterans, including better access to services, jobs, housing, and mental health support.
5. Leads With Lived Experience
Courtney’s advocacy isn’t theoretical—it’s personal. Her role as a veteran’s spouse and a grieving mother has shaped a platform of compassion, understanding, and dedication to service.
